FYI+ and Incite Network Secure $309K Competitive Federal AmeriCorps Win to Deploy Cross-Cutting Regional Solution

LAS CRUCES, NM & WASHINGTON, D.C. — Families & Youth Innovations Plus (FYI+) and national strategy organization Incite Network are proud to announce a powerful joint milestone for regional youth development and community service. The federal AmeriCorps agency has officially issued a Notice of Award approving $309,684 in competitive federal funding to launch the FYI+ AmeriCorps Program for the 2026–2027 cycle.

This federal investment anchors a total program investment of $566,385 in the region. The funding will immediately deploy 31 locally-recruited AmeriCorps members to build a reliable, year-round support network for area children and families.

“I believe that having year-round support via AmeriCorps is very important for our community. Not only because we provide a safe and welcoming environment for students, but also because we are sometimes the only trusted adults in their lives. Many students have disclosed that they don’t have many supportive people around them, and the connections we form with them make all the difference. We make an effort to make our students feel like their voices matter and like they belong,” said AmeriCorps Las Cruces Member Analisa Morales (three-term member).

To win this highly competitive national funding pool, the application strategy was co-designed by Incite Network’s team of experts. This structured approach yielded an exceptional evaluation from the federal panel, which identified zero weaknesses in the program's oversight, staff structure, and training design. Furthermore, the federal panel placed the application in the highest designation a program can achieve.

Driving a Cross-Cutting Solution Through the Vital Conditions Framework

Incite Network organizes its national movements using the Rippel Foundation's Vital Conditions for Health and Well-Being framework. This framework recognizes that when vital conditions are impaired, families face hardships that drive demand for short-term urgent services. True community renewal requires moving beyond temporary fixes to invest in stewardship, building a cross-cutting, interconnected solution that addresses multiple vital conditions simultaneously.

The winning FYI+ strategy functions as a powerful two-generation engine that seamlessly bridges three of these national benchmarks: Lifelong Learning, Civic Muscle & Belonging, and Meaningful Work and Wealth.

“This competitive AmeriCorps win shows exactly what happens when disciplined, expert project design and deep community alignment work hand-in-hand. By framing this initiative as a cross-cutting solution, we are building a lasting two-generation engine for regional stability, career opportunity, and youth success,” said Rosalinda Natividad, Co-Founder, Incite Network.

Bridging Three Vital Conditions

Lifelong Learning

The first generation in this story centers on young elementary students facing systemic educational barriers. The program addresses these gaps by embedding bilingual AmeriCorps members directly into high-need elementary sites to establish a year-round continuum of care for 125 economically disadvantaged K–5 students.

Members provide intensive, one-on-one literacy tutoring, modeled after the nationally recognized Minnesota Reading Corps framework, to double a child's rate of reading acquisition in a single semester.

Day learning transitions into a Safe After-School Program and culminates in the "Mock City" summer initiative, permanently insulating local children from summer learning loss.

Civic Muscle & Belonging

The framework treats belonging as feeling valued for what you bring, and civic muscle as the power to shape a common world.

The program serves as a visible workforce hub, recruiting members directly from the community.

It also expands family belonging through community-facing family nights each semester, celebrating local traditions while providing shared meals that reduce barriers for low-income parents and creating space for uninterrupted parent-child bonding.

Meaningful Work & Wealth

Beyond immediate volunteerism, the strategy secures pathways for long-term financial stability and professional equity. Members complete a rigorous professional training curriculum totaling 170 to 310 hours, earning industry-recognized certifications in Crisis Intervention, First Aid, and CPR.

Through structured mentorship and professional shadowing in behavioral health, social work, and public administration, local emerging leaders are given a direct bridge into permanent career roles.

Historically, over 80% of program alumni report that their service term was the definitive career milestone that launched their professional paths.

Big Ideas, Real Impact.

“Having served in both in-school support and after-school and summer programs, I recognize the importance of building strong relationships with the staff at each site. These connections are crucial not only for safety and coordination but also because it truly takes a village to educate, nurture, and care for our children. Additional support in schools helps ensure that students are safe, well-fed, and cared for, which is absolutely imperative. It also creates familiarity for the communities we serve, and better accessibility as well,” said AmeriCorps Las Cruces Member Kendra Sarabia (three-term member).
